Barratt Homes have completed on a new site in Blackhorse Road, Letchworth Garden City for 159 new family homes, of which 40% will be affordable. Clifton Homes, part of the Land Market group, played a pivotal role in helping to secure the site, introducing it to the housebuilders after the 4.9 hectare site was identified by North Herts District Council as offering an opportunity to deliver new homes to meet local need, whilst creating a more sympathetic use of the land.
The proposed development has been planned with Letchworth’s ‘Garden City’ philosophy in mind and the Letchworth Heritage Foundation has had input into the design process.
Jonathan Amos, Managing Director of Clifton Homes, said; “This completion underlines our role in working alongside land owners and house builders to help bring about the right deals. We are also always keen to see appropriate development and in this instance it promises important affordable housing, plus an overall development in keeping with the surrounding area.”
Clifton Homes work closely with major, national house builders and are ideally placed to assist in the acquisition of large development sites. We were approached by the land owner to market the land to a suitable housebuilder with the skills and expertise to achieve planning permission. Barratt were impressed by the location of the Letchworth site and were successful in achieving planning for the new homes to meet the needs for the area, whilst also being compact and sensitive to the site’s position near Letchworth’s rural edge.
